Inventions,
creations, or other great ideas are formulated in the mind
over time or can come on suddenly and without warning. Sometimes
they result from an unpleasant situation prompted by the question,
"Why can't someone invent something better?"
That simply question created the Flavor Express2® marinator-flavorizor.
Our primary business is medical needles and syringes. Injecting
the family Thanksgiving turkey with melted butter inside a
glass syringe had become an established traditional. Friends
and family would marvel at the resulting moist white breast
meat. For most people, dry, white meat was the accepted standard
since that meat cooked before the darker, leg and thigh meat.
Tenting the breast with aluminum foil helped somewhat, but
the results were unpredictable.
However, problems using the medical needle raised their ugly
heads. The glass syringe was too slippery for use in the kitchen
and didn't bounce on the floor! Also, if left in the utensil
drawer, the plunger would stick tightly and become nearly
impossible to move. The syringe luer was too small to inject
anything but the melted butter. Even coarsely ground black
pepper clogged the luer so completely even the melted butter
couldn't pass through! Worse yet, from a health standpoint,
that needle was impossible to clean thoroughly. It would harbor
unwelcome bacteria, especially if left sitting in the utensil
drawer. A disposable stainless needle for the purpose of injecting
in the home kitchen would be too expensive to make the "right"
way.
That's when the famous light flashed on. Our medical company
had the unique experience designing engineered pointed needles.
We knew the geometry, the mold makers, and how to get the
product manufactured. We would manufacture an open pointed
needle made of a strong polycarbonate capable of penetrating
tough meat. We would suggest pouring in the marinade to reduce
or eliminate cross contamination, and we would make the unit
operable safely and securely with one hand. And, we would
proudly manufacture the unit here in the USA.
We formed a new company, patented The Flavor Express2®
marinator-flavorizor, created a website and are operational
for the world to enjoy deep flavor - the Flavor Express way!
Happy cooking!
